WHEELS MAGAZINE: Cars for Cancer

Whether you’re in the red or blue army, the Cars for Cancer Lottery gives you a chance to win your dream car, and support a great cause. Limited to just 15,000 tickets, at $30 each, the winner of the draw has the choice of an HSV Clubsport R8 or FPV GT – the prize is valued at $78,305.

Through your purchase of a Cars for Cancer lottery ticket, you are helping researchers treat future patients faced with cancer.

Prof Kerry Atkinson at Mater Medical Research Institute has dedicated his life to improving patient outcomes; he was at the forefront of bone marrow transplantation in the 1970s and continues to search for improved ways to treat patients.

Prof Atkinson and his team are investigating adult (non-embryonic) stem cells and how they can be used in regenerative medicine.

“Adult stem cells are amazing, some stem cells—known as induced pluripotent stem cells—have opened so many more possibilities of repairing any damaged human organ. These stem cells can be obtained from any tissue type in the body, like for example heart cells, brain cells and liver cells, and used to repair damage,” Prof Atkinson said.

Tickets are available now and the prize is drawn Friday 16 March 2012. For $30 a ticket you can have the chance to win your choice of V8 muscle car and make a difference to cancer patients—visit www.carsforcancer.com.au
